Foreign news outlets were swift to publicize the sickening tragedy. A newsman announced on screen in a hotel lobby:
“This newscast begins with the tragedy of a Korean aircraft that plunged into the Pacific Ocean one hour after takeoff today. As of yet no information about the cause. Flight 841 from Seoul to Honolulu, Hawaii, will be under full investigation led by the Aviation and Railway Accident Investigation Board. Because of choppy waters, recovering survivors has become difficult for rescue teams. There were 253 passengers and fourteen crew members on board. Updates will be announced as the situation develops.”

Customers in a diner listened to the local news broadcast on a wall-mounted television. Another heinous event occurred at the same time, according to a news anchor.
“A head-on collision that began with the theft of a semi-truck killed nine people. A collision between a stolen tractor-trailer and a passenger vehicle. The disaster caused a fireball that echoed and affected onlookers and commuters nearby. Three people with serious injuries were taken to a nearby hospital. One life-threatened victim was airlifted away from the scene. As of yet, no names have been revealed. This alerts nighttime commuters to the fact that the freeway appeared congested. Detours have been put in place.”
