The book begins with an introduction to the folklore surrounding fairies. There are many theories as to the existence of fairies and their origins, and this section introduces readers to two schools of thought: folkloric, which assumes fairies are real, and mythographic, which assumes they are not. The reader learns about fairy mythology in various traditions and some fascinating fairy appearances in historic literature. The section concludes with entertaining descriptions of fairy tricks and draws the reader into the fairy mindset by asking, “Do you believe in fairies?”
